Jitterbug, JS-3, was purchased by the Ross' in July 2007 from Tom Law and Sandy McGugan from Connecticut. The boat was named Hops A Lot with JS-3 numbers when it was purchased and Ross' changed the name to Jitterbug following a full proper nautical name-changing ritual! Tom and Sandy owned the boat for several years after buying it at Clayton. According to notes in the file from Paul Spernal - who (back in October 2007) said he had and would mail me the original bill of sale that I'm turning blue waiting for - this boat was one of the few Hemi green boats Bender built in 1978. God only knows what the truth of the matter is and I'm only repeating what could theoretically be accurate or a line of "you know what" but I'll continue with the notes from the file and accordingly information supplied by Paul Spernel.  Boat was supposedly built for Ed Schultz who kept it for awhile and sold it to a man with the same name. Vic Myette (Florida) owned the boat at some point (and I met him briefly at the Sunnyland Boat Show in 2008 and wished I had not been pulled 100 directions so I could talk with him more). Spernal bought the boat in 88 or 89 and it was named Bounty Hunter at that time, was used as a river boat and didn't have JS numbers. Spernal changed name to Killin Time and raced is as JS-54 for three years. Boat was then sold to Skip Gillam (but I really think it was sold to Victor Myette and Skip just handled the transaction and worked on the boat for Myette) who cut the bow and added the old style Bender bow. I believe this is also when the boat came to have a red hull with white deck. When I attended races in Chattanooga in October of 2007, my heart did a double-take when a sweet little white Skiff, Sweat Pea, came into the pits. Sweat Pea was owned by Mike Dowd and he sold it that weekend. We (Mike and myself) believed that Jitterbug, Sweat Pea and a third unknown Skiff at this point, were poured & created at the same time as these boats were definitely "sister boats." The serial number is evident on Jitterbug and is located on the starboard side of her transom. (This information written up on 8/28/08)
