Tavares
Get
Together
July 4th 2008
The skiffs were invited by the City of Tavares to put on a demonstration for the 4th of July celebration. There were 6 skiffs who accepted the invitation to have some fun. Project X, Puppy Love, Heartbeat, Jersey Girl, Orange Crate and Glory Days.
The plan was to run 3 boats at a time, four laps, two sessions than see what happens. That all came apart when a boat in the second heat ran with the first heat! So much for a plan.....nonetheless it was a good show and at that point the other boats decided to run and just have fun.
Upon arrival the police escorted us to the closed off ramp and
we were welcomed at the ramp by Tammy and Valerie, our contact persons. Whatever
we needed all we had to do was ask, a click on the radio and it was done.
The city's fire department assisted us in setting turning buoy's within the
boundaries of the sectioned off area for fireworks which would take place later
that evening.
We ran from 6:15 to 7PM. With our last lap we all flew the Stars & Stripes and the crowd loved it. The city's theme this year was "Home Of The Brave" and the fireworks pre-show epitomized this.
Only one real mishap of the evening... Tom is in the market for a prop, he lost it when it just fell off out there!
One other note... In the 5 years we have been down here in
Florida, this years fireworks display by the City of Tavares was by far the best
we've ever seen... down here!
Great job to the City of Tavares!
